Zabar's Deli - Susan Katz (with Murray Klein, Saul Zabar, Stanley Zabar) (True First Edition)
Where to begin? Just look at the cover!! A design icon, about a culinary/sandwich/deli icon and (nearly, clearly) nothing more needs saying about it. As it says in the description on the inside sleeve: ‘What Tiffany is to diamonds, Zabar’s is to food.’ This book lays out the history of the iconic store, the recipes, attitudes, philosophy and so on. No stone is left unturned and you’re gonna love every minute of it. There’s a wonderful quote (amongst many, from the likes of Joseph Heller et al) from someone called Neil Simon: ‘When I die and go to heaven, I hope the Zabar’s up there is as good as the one down here.’
Publisher/Published: Hawthorn, 1979. Hardback with dust Jacket. True First Edition.
Condition: RNTBCHOII few rips in the dustjacket, but I’ll bang some cellophane on and you’ll barely know. Worth every penny and a wonderful read.
